                           There is a cup on the table.

                         The horse is a domestic animal.

                                She gets a husband.

                                       ABLE

                            She shall be able to wait.

                            She was not able to wait.

                                      ABOUT

                              There is nobody about.

                        There are many books lying about.

                            He must be somewhere about.

                               - What's the time ?

                               - It's about twelve.

                         She has about five minutes left.

                              He is about her age.

                          She is about as old as he is.

               She wanted to see him about something very important.

                       He told her about his last project.

                           What is he arguing about ?

                 Their love covers a period of about five years.

                    She was tired of walking about the streets.

                 Don't leave empty letters lying about the table.

                                      ABOVE

                           The lamp is above the table.

                            The sun is above her head.

                          His head was above her heart.

                          Above all, she is missing him.

                                      ABSENT

                               He is absent today.

                             She was absent yesterday.

                                      ACCEPT

                            She accepted his decision.

                      He refused to accept being with her.

                                     ACCIDENT

                   There was an accident in their relationship.

                        On their way they met by accident.

         Don't play with emotions; you may hurt one's heart by accident.

                       She said the wrong word by accident.

                     He met her decision quite by accident.

                                      ACCUSE

               How dares he to accuse her of destroying their life?

                                       ACHE

                       Her eyes ached from weeping so much.

                             She is aching all over.

                                     ACHIEVE

    She will achieve her ambition to be independent

    if she keeps being hard.

                                      ACROSS

                     There is a new bridge across the river.

                    The postman is walking across the street.

                      She came across an old letter from him.

                                       ACT

                              They must act at once.

                           The time cannot act itself.

                     She was saved, because he acted quickly.

                             Who acts his part now ?

                      This is not the last act of this play.

                            Did they like the acting?

                                      ACTION

                We judge a person by his actions, not by his talk.

                         Actions speak louder than words.

                                      ACTIVE

                      She is one of the most active persons.

                          He is not as active as she is.

                                      ACTOR

                              She is a great actor.

                                     ADAPTED

               She is playing now an adapted version of their story.

                                       ADD

                           She adds three to thirty-seven.

               If she adds three to thirty-seven she gets forty.

                         She adds some love to her anger.

                              What else can she add?

                                     ADDITION

               Addition of a bit of love will be great improvement.

                      In addition she suggests one try more.

                                     ADDRESS

                             What's his new address?

                          His address is still the same.

                   He writes her new address on the envelope.

                   She didn't know he had changed her address.

      Were her earlier words addressed to him or to the man

      she saw in him?

                                      ADMIRE

                                 She admired him.

                                    ADVENTURE.

                        Was it only an adventure for him?

                                      ADVERB

         He shall come soon­. She behaves not very well­.

         Don't go away now­.

                       "Soon", "well" and "now" are adverbs.

                                      ADVICE

                        Where can she find a good advice?

                         He gave him often good advice.

                    Let me give you a useful piece of advice.

                       Take his advice and go back to him.

        She will never get well, if she do not follow

        her heart's advice.

                   Nobody advised me to write this dictionary.

                                    AEROPLANE

                     Aeroplanes take easy off and land badly.

                                   AFFIRMATIVE

                         "Yes" is an affirmative answer.

                                      AFRAID

                   Little children are afraid of their parents.

                             What is she afraid of?

                                 Don't be afraid.

                                 He is not afraid.

                         Is she still in love with him?

                                 I am afraid not.

               She is afraid he won't be able to come back to her.

                                      AFTER

                                What comes after?

                            Autumn comes after summer.

                         The dog is running after the cat.

                             She is running after him.

                       Come in and shut the door after you.

                        After visiting her he went home.

                            She came home after he did.

                               Who came after him?

                               Who came after her?

                       After they finished, they went home.

                                    AFTERNOON

                    She loved to be with him on the afternoon.

                           Come on the afternoon again.

                                    AFTERWARDS

                   Don't do it, you'll feel ashamed afterwards.

                                      AGAIN

                                 Call him again.

                      If you fail the first time, try again.

                             Repeat again and again.

                                     AGAINST

                        Is he for or against their love?

                            She has nothing against it.

                        Some people would be against them.

                      The bookcase stands against the wall.

                        The waves beat against the shore.

                                       AGE

                  What age should they reach to come together?

                           They are about the same age.

                       We live in an age of great cowards.

                         It's ages since she saw her last.

                           She has not seen him for ages.

                                       AGO

                             He went away years ago.

                      It all happened many, many years ago.

                          She knew this long ago before.

                      He moved to a new home not long ago.

                                      AGREE

                          Will he agree to come back?

                        I agree that her plan is better.

                You don't agree with me. You are afraid I'm wrong.

                              Do you agree with me?

                          She can't agree to his absence.

                 The children do not agree and begin to quarrel.

                 If you cannot agree, tell him what you think of.

                                    AGREEMENT

  Although they discussed the matter for a long time

  they came to no agreement.

                                        AH

     "Ah!" is an interjection showing surprise, pity, pleasure,

     sorrow, etc.

                                      AHEAD

                Go ahead and tell him, that you are coming or stop

                       if you mean there is a danger ahead.

                                She is ahead of him.

                            She ran away ahead of him.

         He is a brave person and he will soon get ahead

         of the others.

                                       AIM

                                 What's her aim?

                            Her aim was to help herself.

         The hunter aims at the heart of the animal, fires and kills it.

                                       AIR

                                We breathe the air.

                   Fresh air comes in through the open window.

                      Let's go out and have some fresh air.

             We could see a small aeroplane high up in the open air.

                           She sends her a letter by air.

                         Their relationship needed airing.

                                      ALARM

    Small heart quakes were so common that she did not

    feel much alarm at them.

                                       ALAS

                       "Alas!" is a cry of grief or sorrow.

                                      ALIKE

                           There are not two men alike.

                                      ALIVE

                           She wonders she is still alive.

                                       ALL

                                  Is that all?

                            Not all they say is true.

                            All's well that ends well.

                                We are all tired.

                      She spends all her time thinking of him.

                        She didn't like such an end at all.

                              - Is there any hope?

                                  - Not at all.

                         Nobody will be right after all.

                              He did it after all.

                      It was not such a bad time, after all.

                            She cannot do it all alone.

                                 She is all alone.

                      Her rooms are all of memories of him.

                               Is that all right?

                             Everything is almost all right.

                      He shall not come back all the same.

                                      ALLOW

                Father did not allow her to use his fountain pen.

                  Mother did not allow her to go to the cinema.

                     She does not allow herself to love him.

                            Love is not allowed there.

                      They are not allowed to live together.

                                      ALMOST

          It's almost time to talk together

         or to keep silent forever.

                          She was almost happy with him.

                         He was almost unhappy with her.

                           He almost broke her heart.

                                      ALONE

                               She can't live alone.

                              He can't live alone.

                             She is alone at his home.

                           Leave me alone or come back.

                        Her thoughts do not leave her alone.

                                      ALONG

                       The girl was running along the path.

                       Thick grass grew all along the road.

                            Don't stop! Move along!

                    How are you getting along with your life?

                                      ALOUD

                             She calls aloud for him.

                                     ALREADY

                           It's five to twelve already.

                                       ALSO

                        He had a friend. She also had one.

                                     ALTHOUGH

                    Although it was complicated, she loved him.

                                      ALWAYS

                                   - Be ready!

                                 - Always ready!

                      Everybody wants always her help only.

                        Not always her help came in time.

                         He was not always good to her.

                          She was not always nice to him.

                             She is not always alone.

                               She is always lonely.

                                      AMUSE

           This story was not very funny

           and often did not amuse them.

                    She amused a lot of people talking to them.

                    Her amusing stories made everyone laugh.

                     They amused themselves being together.

                                       AND

                          He is a man and she is a women.

                          She is alone and he is alone.

                                  Try and do it.

                                   Come and see.

                          He will go and she will stay.

          They were together and did not see a way

          to keep it this way.

                                      ANGRY

                   Last time they talked in a very angry voice.

                      She was angry when she found the truth.

                                 Are you angry?

                 Don't be angry, after all it's nobodies fault.

                            She was angry at his words.

                        Don't get angry at little things.

                            Her answers made him angry.

                             What made you so angry?

                     When he heard her words, he got angry.

                                      ANIMAL

                              The dog is an animal.

            Dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs are domestic animals.

                   Bears, lions, tigers are wild animals.

                  She did not like to be treated like an animal.

                                   ANNIVERSARY

                    Some anniversaries are on the 31 December.

                                     ANOTHER

                             Have another cup of tea.

                            Please give another chance.

                        Let be together another five years.

                            How many years are left?

                         They always helped one another.

                                      ANSWER

                         She has only one question to answer.

                           Who can give him the answer?

                             She got no answer from him.

                 She wished he could give her a definite answer.

                              Answer "yes" or "no".

                                     ANTONYM

                        Antonyms are i.e. love - indifference.

                                     ANXIOUS

                         She is anxious about her future.

                                       ANY

                                  Any yearning?

                                  Any question?

                            Has he got any courage?

                         Is there any luck in her life?

                            - What day? Oh, any day.

                          Any of these examples will do.

                      You can buy stamps at any post-office.

                                     ANYBODY

                           She did not see anybody come.

                     In the whole room she can't see anybody.

                        Anybody can show you your own way.

                                     ANYTHING

                      Can you see anything in the distance?

                Is there anything interesting in the paper today?

                      - Is there anything in the mailbox?

                         - Not there isn't, it is empty.

                             Take anything you like.

                   You can't buy anything, if you had no money.

                                     ANYWHERE

                              Go anywhere you like.

                     I don't want to go anywhere, I'm tired.

                                    APARTMENT

                  His apartment has always enough place for her.

                                      APPEAR

            It's getting dark. Soon the stars will appear in the sky.

            In the autumn raindrops appear on the windowpanes.

                 He promised to come but he did not appear there.

                                     APPETITE

                           She had an appetite for apples.

                                      APPLES

                            Apples are good to stroke.

                                    APPLE-TREE

                      There is no apple-tree in her garden.

                                     APPROACH

                  As winter approaches the weather grows colder.

                                     APRICOT

    Apricots are smaller than apples, but good to stroke too.

                                      APRON

                           He liked her wearing an apron.

                                       ARE

                                  How are you?

                            You are well, aren't you?

                                      ARGUE

                          What are they arguing about?

                                       ARM

                    You will carry your child in your arms.

                                Lean on my arm now.

                                    ARMCHAIR

                       She likes sitting in an armchair.

                                    ARM-IN-ARM

                          They were walking arm-in-arm.

                                     ARRANGE

    He was arranging flowers on the table when she came in.

                       They arranged to meet at his place.

                   Who will arrange the future life for them?

                      Can he arrange to come back to her?

                                      ARROW

                             She had a bow and an arrow.

                          She shot an arrow into the air.

                         Nobody can stop a flying arrow.

                                       ART

                            She has many books on art.

                      Painting, music, literature is an art.

                               Love is an art too.

                                        AS

                                 Do as you like.

                            Don't do as they tell you.

                           You went as far as possible.

                            - When will you be back?

                              - As soon as possible.

                                     ASHAMED

        Don't say such things, you'll feel ashamed afterwards.

                               Isn't he ashamed?

                       He ought to be ashamed of himself.

                  She is not ashamed, although she acted badly,

                       because she always accuses others.

                                      ASIDE

                          He pushed her aside from him.

                                       ASK

                              If you don't know, ask.

                             - Can you come with me?

                         - You don't have to ask anybody.

                             Ask your heart about you.

                         She asks herself many questions.

                                      ASLEEP

                            She was asleep in his bed.

                     A few minutes later he was fast asleep.

                             Soon he felt asleep too.

                                       ASS

                          The ass is a beast of burden.

                                  She was an ass.

                                     ASTONISH

                          His silence didn't astonish her.

                  He was very greatly astonished at her behaviour.

                                        AT

                        When was he last at the cinema?

                           They came at the same time.

                                      ATTACK

                         She attacks him in her thoughts.

                                      ATTEMP

                    Don't give up if your first attempt fails.

                  They made an attempt to be together but failed.

                                    ATTENTION

                     He does not pay attention to her life.

                      Why didn't she draw attention to it?

                                      AUTHOR

                           Who is her favourite author?

                                      AUTUMN

                            Autumn comes after summer.

      September, October and November are autumn months.

                   In autumn the leaves turn yellow, red and brown.

                                      AWAKE

                                 We shall awake.

                                       AWAY

                               The bird flew away.

                            She is away now from him.

                                      AWFUL

                               Loneliness is awful.

                                     AWFULLY

                    She would be awfully glad to see him again.

                                       AXE

                        He chopped her heart with the axe.
